Pet Dental Month

Did you know dental health is one of the most overlooked pet health care concerns for your pet? Unfortunately, delaying or postponing dental health care will lead to mouth or tooth pain and eventually tooth loss. Dental disease doesn't affect just the mouth. It can also lead to liver, kidney, heart and immune system disease. In fact, the American Veterinary Dental Society reports that 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of oral disease by age three.

Warning signs to look for in your pet:

Bad breath
Sensitivity around the mouth
Loss of appetite
Yellow or brown deposits on the teeth
Bleeding, inflamed, or receding gums
Loose or missing teeth
Pawing at the mouth or face
Difficulty chewing

New Hospital Hours for 2013

As of January 1, 2013 we will be open until 7 PM on both Tuesday and Thursday evenings. In addition, we will continue to provide daily drop off pet appointments. "Drop off" appointments are very convenient for our busy families that are having a difficult time scheduling an appointment. Please contact our office at 777-5131 to schedule an appointment or plan a drop off patient work up.

Owners Found!

Recently a handsome adult male bull terrior mix wandered up the clinic. Fortunately the kennel staff were outside to see him and greet him. He was excited to see her and wanted into the kennel yard. The kennel staff secured all of our patients and brought "stud muffin" into the hospital for a quick assessment. He did not have a collar, no microchip and no tattoos or identification marks. Dr D evaluated him for general health, luckily no wounds or signs of trauma! The staff quickly contacted local shelters, veterinary clinics, police, and rescues in the West Chester area. Then the staff started posting his photo on Facebook and other rescue sites. Through Facebook his owners were found! "Jack" was picked up the next day by his father. We are pleased Jack will become a regular patient and get his microchip.

Every week we meet 2-3 lost dogs that have no collar or microchip. The quickest way to be sure your pet gets returned to you is a collar with tags and/or microchip implantation. The microchip can be implanted during an appointment using a local anesthetic. It is smaller than a grain of rice and has no ill affects. Please call the office today to schedule your pet's permanent identification.

Pet Adoption Day!

Join us on October 13, 2012 for our third annual PET ADOPTION DAY at the Animal Hospital of West Chester.

We will have over 20 lovable, adoptable dogs from local rescue shelters such as Animal Friends Humane Society (www.animalfriendshs.org) and Recycled Doggies (www.recycleddoggies.org), just to name a few.

If you are already a proud dog owner, you and your family are invited too! We will have special services for your dogs and a few fun and interesting things for the owners as well.

Planned activities include:

On-site "while you wait" dog baths and nail trimming services ($10.00)
On-site microchip insertion and pet registration information ($25.00)
Several community sponsored gift baskets will be raffled and awarded to visitors throughout the day
West Chester Fire Department will be onhand from 11:00am - 12:00 pm to give fire truck tours and show off the "8 foot inflatable fireman"

All proceeds and donations collected during this event, go to Carlie's Animal Relief Foundation.

Carlie's Animal Relief Foundation

The Carlie’s Animal Relief Foundation (CARF) was started when Carlie, a beloved rescue, passed away from cancer. The foundation helps by donating money towards medication and procedures for pets, whose owners need help caring for them. CARF was founded to be sure all pets are able to have happy, healthy lives with their owners.

Dr. Kara is a Mommy!

Congratulations to Dr. Kara Ringenbach and her husband Michael on the arrival of their daughter Olivia Rose. Olivia Rose was born on August 20th weighing 7 lb 1 oz, 21 inches long. Both Mother and daughter are Perfect.

Dr. Kara will be on maternity leave until October 3rd. During her leave Dr. Erin Kelly will work on Wednesdays and some Saturdays.
